Palissandro marble: One of a kind in the world
Palissandro marble is a stone of extraordinary beauty. Its highly pure material is dotted by miniscule bright crystals which shine like a shower of diamonds.
This wonderful marble only comes from the Crevola quarry, an age-old deposit in the heart of the Ossola Valley owned by Gruppo Tosco Marmi. It is this marble that was used to build some of the most outstanding monumental works in Italian history.

‘Among all the splendid stones, you are the brightest, Crevola stone.’
(Anonymous)
The Palissandro marble is a metamorphic rock composed of dolomite minerals, with smaller quantities of calcite, phlogopite, plagioclase, tremolite, titanite and epidote. The composition of the material and the distribution of the various minerals lend surprising brilliance to this stone, which gives its veins an appealing decorative quality.

Also known as Crevola marble, Palissandro marble is unique in the world. It is only extracted from the Crevoladossola V.C.O Italia quarry, which is owned by Gruppo Tosco Marmi.

From the Crevoladossola quarry to great monumental works.
The use of stone as construction material, whether of lesser quality for common buildings or of high quality for temples, tombs and public works, forms part of the story of human civilisation. Because stone has been used to give expression to human creations, it is an important part of the human cultural legacy. Palissandro marble was used in the creation of several important monumental works, above all the Arch of Peace in Milan and the Pavia Cathedral.
